The City of Port Adelaide Enfield has provided us with a Hanson Reserve Velodrome restoration completion date of 8 April 2019, with training and racing to recommence there at ASAP. As of yesterday (Monday 18 March) the track's safety fence plinth pour had commenced and will be completed at a rate of about 40m per day. This extends the track's grade right to the barrier fence, which will be fine (25mm) chainmesh, with track-side and spectator-side safety rails similar to the SuperDrome.
The weather may still be warm, but winter is fast approaching. Before you think about getting your fleece kit and water proof vest out, have you thought about getting a flu shot? We are all too busy to get sick, and even if you are fit and healthy, the flu can cause severe illness, so vaccination is your best defence for a flu free winter.

Today saw the last of the 2018-19 Zero Frictiion Cycling Time Trials at the windless (yes, that's what the BOM says) Outer Harbor. It was a dark start, but the weather couldn't have been more perfect. Regular participants were joined by 25 athletes taking part of the Invictus Cycling Pathways program being held this weekend, so the field was at capacity.
U23 PACCers who have been selected to the State or National team, or have been racing at the national level regularly may be eligible for our Junior Racing Scholarships. The cash scholarships are intended to be used to support of travel, accommodation and kit purchases. The eligibility period is the club financial year - between 1 April - 31 March and recipients are announced at the club's AGM.
The Port Adelaide Cycling Club Committee released its Mission Statement and Strategic Plan at the end of 2018 following consultation with its members. It provides a clear strategy and outlines of initiatives to develop our club and the sport within the community. The Plan is categorised into six key pillars of Governance, Club Development, Competition and Events, Communication and IT, Volunteer Development and Coordination and Sport Development.
Congratulations to PACC representatives in the recently announced South Australian Track team that will be heading off to Queensland for the National Track Championships in early April.
Over two days last weekend a small army descended upon the Hanson Reserve Clubrooms to scrape, wash, repair, tidy, patch, scrub, sand, unclog and paint. From top to bottom volunteers from Port Adelaide CC and Kilkenny CC (plus friends) gave the old clubrooms a 'makeover'. The dreary depressing brown dusty interior has been replaced with a welcoming white and with a little more work will turn into a very welcoming and comfortable space. The outside now has functional gutters and with a change in colour the clubhouse certainly has more street appeal.
Last night the final round of Seight Sports Sprint Wars was run at the Adelaide Superdrome. With the Superdrome closing for a few months, it was a final opportunity for riders to get some valuable track time and there was nearly a full field of 32 riders lining up for their flying 200m qualifying, with some U17 riders boosting the Elite entries.
We were back to the City, with wintery conditions - on part of last year's ripper National Cyclo-Cross Series course. With rain falling and temperatures dropping to 14C by the end of the evening, it was our first taste of mud for quite some time. Quite a few new riders enjoying the conditions and a terrific set-up and pack-down volunteer effort meant we got maximum race times given the gloomy conditions.
Round 3 of the 2018-19 Zero Friction Cycling Time Trial Series was held this morning with 52 riders taking to the course, including 8 juniors from the second start line at Harrold Street. A steady breeze kept the temperature down, and the mosquitos active.
