The UCI Para-Cycling Road World Championships kicked off overnight in Emmen, the Netherlands with Port Adelaide CC's Paige Greco (C3) and Meg Lemon (C4) racing the Time Trial for Team Australia. Massive congratulations to (now 3x) World Champion Paige and Bronze Medallist Meg!
Port Adelaide Cycling Club is one of the oldest in the country, established in 1885, and was one of the founding clubs of the State Sporting Organisation (SSO) that is now known as Cycling SA (CSA) and by default, the National Sporting Organisation (NSO) being Cycling Australia (CA).
Skid city! It started out as a pretty fine day with maximum grip on most of the course, but during the tail end of the B-Grade mens race, conditions turned 'epic' with a 2mm dumping of rain falling within about a 15min period.
Congratulations to the many new State Champions crowned on a new course in Foresters Forest, Gepps Cross!
Another fantastic new venue in our club's traditional heartland - a waterfront course in Port Adelaide with a variety of surfaces and challenges including sand, random shopping trolleys and some slippery off camber corners. We'll be back!
Loosely known as ‘The Battle of Hoth’, a special one-off Seight Sports Sprint Wars was run by PACC at the Superdrome on Sunday afternoon. With the addition of quite a few top-notch visitors from interstate and some ‘local’ HPU riders, the field was set to commence the attack/defence of Echo Base, leaving Admiral Ozzel dead on the floor of the Executor and Han Solo struggling to get the Millennium Falcon ready for the evacuation…but I digress…
At the 2019 PACC AGM, two of our loyal volunteers were awarded Life Membership. Thank you and congratulations Alex and Will for your long serving dedication and support for our club!
Earlier this year PACC invited junior and U23 members who have been selected to the State or National team, or have been racing at the national level regularly to apply for our Junior and U23 Racing Scholarships. The cash scholarships are intended to be used to support of travel, accommodation and kit purchases.
The new working with children check (WWCC) that is being introduced from 1 July 2019 replaces the current system, where people can have either a Department of Human Services (DHS) child-related employment screening, or a National Police Certificate assessed by their employer/volunteer-involving organisation.
Following on from the success of our Club's five teams in 2018, we are seeking expressions of interest from members to join our club teams for the 2019 Cycling South Australia Super Series. PACC will subsidise teams across all categories - and we hope to be able to fly the (monochrome) colours across a number of grades to cater for new and experienced riders, young and old.
The series is a lot of fun, and consists of criteriums, a hill climb and a double header on the Copper Coast and is held between September and November.
If you are interested, send us an email with your name, age and your preferred category.
Further information is available on the dedicated Super Series website (note that the Club will submit an EOI for the teams.)
