Port Adelaide Cycling Club and Kilkenny Cycling Club invite the cycling and local community to come together to celebrate the redevelopment and Official Opening of the Hanson Reserve Velodrome.
Port Adelaide CC is excited to be teaming up with Kilkenny Cycling Club and Cycling SA to present the Return to Hanson Reserve track and cyclo-cross event, incorporating the official (re)opening of the Velodrome with the City of Port Adelaide Enfield.
PACC has a long and proud history of running track races, and it was some of our track members who pioneered cyclo-cross racing in SA in 2011, looking for something different to race in winter. So it's only fitting that the first race we hold at back at Hanson Reserve after a 14 year hiatus incorporates both!
The "Return To Hanson Reserve" will be an evening of celebrating cycling, with Senior and Junior track and cyclocross racing open to all grades, with food trucks (Spuds & More and The Sweet Spaniard), music, children's entertainment, the PACC Pirate Life Brewing bar, and the Australian Olympic Track Team showing us just how fast you can go on that new surface at Hanson Reserve Velodrome! Touché! We can show them how fast we can go on grass, over barriers and on the Velodrome!
Kudos to those who have entered both the track and CX events! If you're a competitor and can't find your emailed instructions click here. If you're thinking of entering CX on the day - please get there well before your event to avoid disappointment.
Special thanks to Zero Friction Cycling, Schwalbe Australia, Pirate Life Brewing and Sylvester's Pizza for supporting our event!

RIDER INSTRUCTIONS
A couple of key takeaways before tomorrow's racing kicks off:
-We have lots of riders (and a tight schedule!) - so it is up to you to be ready at the rider marshall point (back straight gate). With 33 events - the evening can blow out very quickly, so we won't have time to find riders who are late. For those CX riders who have never been to a track race before, track programs don't always run to the time proposed - so please keep an eye on where the program is at via event numbers - and don't be surprised if we run ahead or behind schedule.Cyclo-Crossers - Note the approximate start times that the event schedule has for the following events, all going like clockwork - remember to sign on AT LEAST 30mins prior to your event and bring your PACC Timing Tag:
- Event 5: Cyclo-Cross – Little Crossers 5:20pm
- Event 12: Cyclo-cross – Junior A & B Grade 6:51pm
- Event 17: Cyclo-cross – Women A, B, C & Men C Grade 7:38pm
- Event 25: Cyclo-cross – Men A & B Grade 8:49pm
It has taken a lot of work to get this down to a manageable level. With 200 entrants blowing away our expectations, it did present some challenges. Nevertheless, we are confident we've come up with a great program that will be exciting for spectators and engaging for riders. With a reasonable size crowd on the cards - we're hoping it'll be a great experience for all. The program is expected to finish around 10 all going to plan.
As we have lots of bike riders we can't fit them all on at once. Junior warm-up from 4:15 and a senior warm-up from 4:30
Parking will be on the side streets surrounding the reserve. The actual car park will be reserved for officials & Spectators.
This is the first time a major event has been run at Hanson in over a decade, so please be respectful of local residents. Make sure you don't park over driveways etc. We don't want any complaints.
If you drive to the event, please take extra care ensuring that valuables are out of sight, that your windows are up and your cars are locked!
Motorpaced Scratch Race: Somewhere between a keirin and a scratch race.
Junior D Derny Race: A special treat for our Junior D riders - with an opportunity for them to line up alongside their Aussie Cycling Team Heros! Like a Derny Race, but the horsepower will be provided by our best track riders as they prepare for Tokyo Olympics
Elimination/Motorpace 2-in-1 special: This is two race in one! First up is an elimination race. As riders get eliminated instead of pulling out of the race they go back and sit behind the following motorbike (which will be sitting a quarter of a lap behind the bunch). Once the elimination has been won - the race will swap into a straight scratch race as the moto pulls off.
How many laps? Every race is different based on grade, age and field size. Check with the friendly comm team before starting to finalise the specifics of your race.!
We'll see you all tomorrow!
