A depleted field enjoyed racing on a spectacular twilight cyclo-cross course around the old Port Adelaide Canal following ZipTrak Stage 1 of the Santos Tour Down Under.
Wedged inbetween a busy calendar of evening TDU racing, and battling the extreme heat that took its toll on TDU watchers, those that did travel to Port Adelaide for the Focus CXtwiLITE R2 enjoyed a fantastic new course on the old Port Canal. With every surface imaginable (except mud) and some sections tricky enough to force most people to run (or decide it was quicker to run!) the racing was fast and furious, with many sprint finishes. Those that set up the course early even got to see the Port River Dolphins! With racing commencing in 36C heat, the gentle breeze over the water kept the conditions bearable, and ice and water pistols kept everyone safe and cool - with the last race finishing in almost arctic conditions (23C!). Props to the interstate people for bringing Cx-capable bikes and supporting our event.
Thanks to Port Adelaide Enfield Council for the opportunity to run an event in our traditional heartland! We hope to run some more events near there soon, we are excited for sand!
Thanks to race supporters Focus Bikes, Ben Cove Strength and Conditioning.
