Port Adelaide CC's final 'Winter' CX race of 2018 returned to 'Not the Circus' in Park 24, Adelaide. Although winter appears to have bypassed our season altogether, with another beautiful day, light winds and a nearly dry course welcoming riders contesting the Focus Crossfire Cup.

Thanks to Cycle Closet and Pirate Life Brewing supporting our volunteers with giveaways for early risers with 10 pairs of Morvelo socks, or PL tinny coolers available for everyone who turned up - no random draw was necessary because at 7:45am this morning only 4 volunteers had arrived, and 10 by 8am - so setup ran overtime and course practice was necessarily curtailed. Special thanks to those PACC volunteers who turned up and helped out the club who weren't even racing today - you know who you are!

After the sign-on queue was diverted to assist with course set-up, racing commenced in earnest with the Little Crossers' grid an impressive sight with quite a few newcomers to racing enjoying their special truncated course which include the rapidly drying 'fudge pit'. A few parents will have to get training to keep up on foot with those strider bikes...

The biggest field of the day was Juniors! Juniors contained all the J9, J11 and J13 riders, which is advanced kids aged 6 through to 12yo on course. 31 kids raced multiple laps of the half-course including the double barrier sets and tricky off-camber mulch.  It finished in a sprint finish after a tactical race between Jacob C and Leonard T which set the tone of today's races, with many close finishes across the grades, including a sprint between Rachel Goud and Felicity Salkeld for the C-Grade win, and Stacey Riedel and Jo Easson in Womens A-Grade.

After all the 18+ racers and vollies had taken their choice of a Pirate Life Brewing can for later(?) tasting, the Focus Mares carbon CX frame was drawn at presentation - Congratulations to Andy Rogers who won! Special thanks to the guys at Focus who have supported our racing since 2011.
