2019 will be an exciting year for PACC, with the restoration of Hanson Reserve Velodrome currently well underway, scheduled to be completed late Jan 2019.

The return of the velodrome to active use will end a 13 year hiatus of racing and training at the Woodville Gardens facility. The velodrome is banked, 403m long, fully lit and will have a velodrome-specific surface suitable for training and racing year-round (just not when really wet!). The facility includes clubrooms with a kitchen, separate mens and womens changerooms and shower facilities, and a meeting/training space. Port Adelaide CC and Kilkenny CC members have been working closely with the City of Port Adelaide Enfield with recent test rides on the new concrete surface a success.

PACC plans to work together with Kilkenny Cycling Club to return racing and training at the venue at the earliest opportunity, and maximise the benefits of the velodrome for our members, whether you intend to race track or not.  Imagine a place where you can have a hard training session, go as fast as you like and not have to worry about traffic - no it's not Zwift, it's real riding with real people, and will help increase your fitness and skills in a safe and controlled environment.

Current Training Plans - every week:

  • Tuesday Evenings: Track Craft and Skills -  specific training for track bikes only
  • Thursday Evenings: Motor Pacing Madness! The session will be suitable for both road and track bikes, with two motorpacers keeping bike types separate.

In true PACC style the sessions will be inclusive, for all ages and abilities, low-cost and fun.  We've looked at what's happening around the country, what's working well and what people find fun! We are calling out for volunteer motor pacers (car license and helmet required, scooters will be supplied) and coaches (Road Track and Skills Coach is the minimum requirement) to go on a roster to spread the load soon - email us if you want to get on the list.

The club rooms are currently like being in a 1970's timewarp. Thanks to PACCer Kayla McSporrran and Fruitful Homes we have a plan to renovate the space to make it a place where you'll want to hang out. A working bee will be held to bring the club rooms into the 21st century - stay tuned for how you can help.
