Hi all,
Just noticed the new Norwood Cycling Club jersey ... its quite clever really, even features the Norwood Town Hall in place of St Basil's Cathedral, or the Kremlin or whatever its supposed to be on the Katusha jersey. The use of colours and themes is clever.
Good effort.
Made me think of this, complete with magpie feathers on the wings of the jersey ...

NEGATIVES:
You would look like a wannabe pro / Hubbard.
The teal blue would look like you wish to be associated with Port Power.
You'd forever be changing the design of your club jersey to follow trends in the pro peleton.
POSITIVES:
There would be less whitespace for Barndogg's mum to keep white
I like the current PACC jersey. It's not pretentious.
Steve: even though I don't approve your proposed change, I do like your art work. What did you use to generate the image? _________________ the best way to start the day is with a large serve of pain for breakfast |

LOL I think it's poor form copying a pro jersey. The club has been around 125 years, we can have our own identity not copy something from a team of 12 months! And teal shouldn't be on there, as the Port Pirie Club's official colours are black, white and teal (not that you see many of them around) and ours are black and white (the small bit of red is from the manufacturer's logo).
When the current PACC jersey was developed large expanses of white was preferred because it's more visible from the front and back (esp in traffic) and cooler. The lower rear part was kept black for those muddy days and to save people's mum too much hard work....
Ironically when it was first used in racing the then Orbea Team jersey came out the same time and we were accused of 'copying' it (which we didn't)!
It's time to arrange some new PACC knicks though.... _________________ single speed - one is all you need |

Although I like the design of that one, I prefer the current one. It comes complete with a built in 6-pack (although I still think the front design came from Dave's star wars obsession). _________________ I like to ride my bicycle. |

Gemm, do Pacc have a vintage jersey that has been kept? Like the old woolen ones.
I would love to see pics, I wanna know if they used the old jail bar look like everything else in Port Adelaide
Club jersey should stay plain and ugly, trying to make them look too fancy will attract hubburds to clubs, just so they can look important _________________ Don't buy upgrades; ride up grades. |

I like the idea of a darker jersey so I can wear it off-road and not worry about the mud.
However I prefer the current jersey, and ripping off a pro jersey is sort of lame. |

Matt D has one of the last 'jail bird' type ones. They're a nice look on thin people, the stretched and hence non-parallel lines look pretty bad on everyone else! Then the next design was large 'checks' which was appalling...
The original jersey was all black with the PACC logo patch sewn on - I believe Tom E-S just sent an email to members out with a pic attached!!!
Our new logo is an evolution of the original Magpie logo, the jersey sort of has 'wings'....
I think it's great you can pick the PACC jersey out in a bunch from miles away, and unlike other clubs you actually see it getting worn.... _________________ single speed - one is all you need

For those that didn't get the email:
On behalf of the Port Adelaide Cycling Club I invite you and your friends to join us on the 28 February 2010 at Senna Rd Wingfield where we will be conducting graded Criterium racing to celebrate the Clubs 125th Anniversary. (See course map here.)
A memento* commemorating the 125th Anniversary will be presented to all current members and life members, with the option for non members to purchase a memento at the completion of racing.
All current PACC members will be asked to take part in a group photo which will be in stark contrast to the original photo taken of foundation members 125 years ago - Please wear PACC uniform for the photo.
Junior racing will commence at 8.30am with senior sign-on by 8.45am Entry will be a gold coin.
It is proposed that a special Criterium training ride will also be conducted to enable any recreational license holders who may turn up to ride with an experienced rider and gain some insights into the skills required to ride a Criterium event. The PACC committee is encouraging recreational license holders from all clubs to attend.
Should the event be cancelled due to rain a free raffle will be conducted for all registered riders.
A toilet facility will be available.
[*The momento is something pretty useful to most PACC members, so be there to get one! ] _________________ single speed - one is all you need

Oh yeah - I do agree with that, its not a recommendation to change something that works ... its a tongue in cheek comparison to NCC's new jersey, and Cervelo's black and white jersey is the obvious candidate in the pro peleton to base it on. They use red on the collar and cuffs, which doesnt work for Port Adelaide, so I went teal on this one to give it that 'power' look.
Did the image using gimp :
- gradient fill on the large black sections to give it some texture
- bezier selection tool to define the feathers/wings
- layer rotation tool to get the 'p' and 'a' on the arms
10 minute job once you get used to the tools.

I did start the concept using blender - to create a proper rotating 3D model of the jersey concept, but that was too much work. Its a brilliant tool though, and worth the effort to learn. If you like doing artwork on the computer, blender will blow you away.

One thing I do like is garmin's jersey where they have the image of a powerbar or something sticking out the back jersey pocket. The PACC/cervelo rip-off concept could have the image of a coopers pale ale sticking out the rear jersey pocket ;) haha |
