Shimano 105 Cassette on Fulcrum Racing 5 Evolution Hub

I am trying to put a Shimano 105 cassette (11-25) on a fulcrum racing 5, shimano compatible cassette body. However when the cassette is on, the shimano lockring doesn't appear to be compatible. Does anyone have experience with the Fulcrum wheels with shimano free hubs? Do I need a campy lockring? I believe the previous cassette was Dura Ace, are these slightly different to the 105 design?

Thanks

I had the same issue about a month ago (although I have an Ultegra 12-25 cassette). I actually ended up going into a bike shop thinking I'd have to buy a deeper lockring to reach further into the cassette. Turns out there was a very well stuck and quite well hidden spacer stuck to the bottom of the 25 cog. Removing it did the trick.

I did however remember reading on the PBK site when i bought the wheels that there are lockring issues with the shimano 11T cassettes.

BTW the wheels are on my commuter bike and have been faultless so far.

Hi, there are two issues here, which need to be separated.

Firstly, 11t and 12t lockrings are different sizes. A 12t lockring's diameter is too great for an 11t cog. Not a problem for shimano as every cassette comes with a lockring, unlike campy where the lockring comes with the wheel.

Secondly, Ben P is right. 10sp cog sets should come with a little spacer, which goes on first on 8/9/10sp compatible hub bodies. It's a different diameter and thickness to all the other spacers so you can't get it confused.
It's probably still on the wheel your casette came from. If your previous wheel is a 10sp-only hub-body, you will not have the spacer and will have to go get one from somewhere...

Thanks guys, I do have the spacer behind the 25 cog and that was transferred to the new cassette body. The problem seems to be as Ben described i.e. it looks like I need a deeper lockring which I assume will be sorted if I get an 11t campy lockring. Are these readily available in bike shops or would I need to order from an online store?

Cheers

I am sure somewhere in Adelaide has an 11tooth lockring in stock. You might need to phone around.

As an aside Gemma, I recently ordered a Veloce Campagnolo cassette and it came with a lockring! Ordered from Ribble Cycles in the UK. Highly recommended.
